Session 1: File and folder
(ICT and communication tech)
File: is a collection of data covering a particular topic.
Properties of file:
Have file extension to identify its type.
Has a name to identify it.
It cannot contain a folder.
Cannot be compressed (Archive).
Has a size.
Types of file (extension):
(.csv)
(.txt)
(.rtf)
(,gif)
(.jpeg)
(.png)
(.pdf)
(.mp4)
(.mp3)
(.css)
(.html)
(.rar)
(.zip)
NOTE: File path is written as c:\”folder name”\
Folder: is a container/ place to store/organise files on a computer.
Properties of folder:
Has a name to identify it.
Can contain sub folder
It can contain a file
Can be compressed to a smaller size.
Doesn’t have a size(If empty folder)
Types of Folder:
Sub-folder: which is a folder inside a folder.
Root folder: which is the main folder and called/acts as the parent folder.
Nested folder: which is a folder inside a folder that contains another folder(s) and so on. The main folder is called the root folder
